Metta Centre

Metta Centre is a non-sectarian, volunteer-powered Buddhist organisation based in Bankstown, New South Wales. Rooted in the learning and practice of the Buddha’s teachings, the Centre aims to promote wellbeing through cultivating compassion, mindfulness, and peace in everyday life. It has a broad and diverse demographic profile, with a significant proportion of its community comprising young adults. The Centre offers regular in-person and online programs, including Dharma talks, workshops, meditation classes, conferences, pilgrimages, and retreats. It also supports monastics visiting Sydney by assisting with accommodation and coordinating teaching tours during their time in Australia. In 2024, Rhonda Place was established to offer accommodation and a teaching hall for monastics. Metta Hearts, the social welfare arm of the centre, supports the underprivileged in the community, such as the homeless and children in foster care.

Founded in 2015 by President Tina Ng, Metta Centre has grown into an active hub for Buddhist learning and community engagement. In 2025, the Centre marked its 10th anniversary with a series of events, including a Mahādāna alms offering in Burwood involving monastics from diverse Buddhist traditions and cultural backgrounds, the community-focused Metta Festival at Burwood Park, and the Metta Convention hosted at Western Sydney University in Bankstown.1
