The Buddhism in Australia Survey, part of the “Buddhism in Australia: Belonging, Wellbeing and Social Engagement” research project, surveys Australians who are Buddhists or who engage with Buddhist values, ideas, or practices. It is the first nationwide survey of its kind, developed in consultation with monastic and lay Buddhist leaders, scholars, and First Nations knowledge holders, and administered as an online questionnaire in seven community languages. The survey covers broad areas including Buddhist practices, beliefs, values, forms of practice, social engagement, material practices, and Buddhist views on wellbeing and sense of belonging in Australian society. The survey ran between September 2025 and June 2026, garnering 2,317 completed responses.
