The Buddhist charity foundation, Hsing Yun Education Foundation, was named after Venerable Master Hsing Yun (1927-2023), a Buddhist monk and Founder of Fo Guang Shan monastic order and was established on 10 June 2017. The Venerable Master’s firm belief in the power of education, and his resolve to make education accessible and available to Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike, laid the Foundation’s cornerstone. Guided by the wisdom and ethics of Humanistic Buddhism, the Foundation strives to advance education, community and social welfare, as well as culture.¹

Hsing Yun Education Foundation was initially established through proceeds raised from the Venerable Master’s One Stroke Calligraphy.² In his seventies, his eyesight deteriorated due to long-term diabetes, limiting many of his daily activities. When he realised he was still able to write, he poured his blessings and goodwill into his calligraphy, which became known as “One Stroke Calligraphy.” 

Hsing Yun Education Foundation supports scholarships, academic research, professional and community outreach programs, public lectures, youth and wellbeing initiatives, and the translation and dissemination of educational resources through partnerships with Nan Tien Institute, schools, community organisations, and Buddhist education providers across Australia.³ Through these efforts, the Foundation strives to promote cross-cultural understanding and contribute to the wellbeing of people, communities, and society in Australia.
